Your union is about more than your paycheck and benefits.
Your union is about more than your paycheck and benefits. The UFCW is about workers coming together to build better lives for our families. It’s about creating opportunity. That’s why each year the UFCW awards several scholarships of up to $8,000 each to UFCW members or their unmarried dependents. In addition to the scholarships offered by UFCW, the Region 5 Council of UFCW awards several scholarships of $1,500 each year. The scholarship application and rules are available online at ufcw.org/scholarship.
In addition to the UFCW scholarships, the Union Plus Scholarship program has helped union families cope with the high cost of higher education. Union members, their spouses and dependent children are eligible to apply for scholarships to defray the costs of attending a college or university (including graduate school), a community college, or a technical college or trade school. The scholarships range from $500 to $4,000. The Union Plus Scholarship application is available online at UnionPlus.org/Scholarships, beginning in September, and the deadline for applying is January 30, 2012.
I encourage all eligible members to take advantage of these scholarship opportunities. Applications can be submitted online at [email protected] or members without Internet access can call the office (800) 872-9594 for an application. This year’s scholarship winners will be notified via mail by in June 2010. Winner’s names will be posted on the UFCW website, www.ufcw.org after June 20th.
